Finnish Parliament (Eduskuntatalo)
The Finnish Parliament building's architectural structure derived from a competition held in 1924. Under the proposal titled Oratoribus, the firm of Borg-Sirén-Åberg won the bid to design the facility. Primarily, the structure was designed by Borg-Sirén-Åberg employee Johan Sigfrid Siren (1889-1961). It took more than five years to build the 1920's classical-style facility that was inaugurated on March 7, 1931. The exterior of the Finnish Parliament features reddish Kalvola granite. Fourteen columns with Corinthian capitals line the façade. Inside the building hosts six floors containing among other things a main lobby, the Speaker's reception rooms, the Information Service, the Documents Office, the newspaper room, the messenger centre, a restaurant, various function rooms, and a library.
