Public sauna
The sauna bath is a long-standing Finnish traditional. Nearly every household has a aspen wood-heated sauna that is used on a daily basis. In the past, practically every Finnish city was home to at least one public sauna. Today, however, while the sauna tradition stands strong, public saunas are harder to come by. The award-winning Kothiharjum Sauna in central Helsinski is one of the public saunas that remain. Situated near the Sörnäinen metro station, visitors are welcome to enjoy the family-owned sauna at its newly renovated premises. The sauna is open Tuesday through Saturday. Other saunas in the Helsinski are include the Saunabar and the Finnish Sauna Society.
